It’s important that you get the best quality medical treatment as an injured worker.
Employees with work-related injuries should be directed to CFMC Urgent Care. While not required, it is requested that the employer call to give us notice that the employee is on their way (336-694-9331, option 2).
CFMC Urgent Care accepts walk-ins only and does not provide appointments. Patients are triaged and treated in an order that ensures the best possible outcome for everyone involved.
Scope of services:
The employee will be evaluated and treated by a medical provider. Depending on the type of injury, an evaluation may include laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and/or referral for specialty care consult. In rare cases, serious injury may require that the employee is directed to the nearest emergency room.
There are also times when an employee’s injury may require them to come back to CFMC Urgent Care for a follow-up or recheck. If that’s necessary, we will inform the employee before they check out.
CFMC offers several in-house laboratory tests that provide immediate results. Should the employee require a lab test that isn’t completed in-house, CFMC will send the sample to Quest Diagnostics for processing. For any send out tests, the employee will be notified as to how and when results will be communicated.
If specialty consult is required, the employee will be given the option of seeing the specific provider of their choice, or if they are unsure, the employee will be given a list of options from which they can choose. It will be the employee’s responsibility to schedule their specialist appointment.
It’s important to note that some worker’s comp insurance carriers require that the employee chooses from a specific list of pre-approved specialty care providers. If this is the case, the Employer is responsible for making sure that CFMC has this information available to ensure that the process is as smooth as possible.
If after examining the employee, the provider determines that the employee’s condition requires time away from work, the provider will either provide instruction on the paperwork provided by the employer/workers comp insurance carrier or the employee will be given a written document of such and instructed to share the document with the employer. The amount of time away from work will be part of the provider’s clinical decision-making process and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Depending on the nature of the injury, it may be necessary for CFMC to prescribe medications. When this happens, the prescriptions will be sent to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice, unless the worker’s comp insurance carrier has specific requirements.

Billing for Worker’s Comp:
CFMC will make every effort to bill either worker’s comp insurance or the employer directly. In the event a claim for payment is rejected by the worker’s comp company, the employer will be notified. The employer will have the opportunity to pay the bill or instruct CFMC to bill the employee’s health insurance and/or the employee directly. Ultimately, the patient will be held responsible for any amounts due to CFMC as the result of the care provided.
Drug and alcohol testing:
Regulations issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regarding Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses became effective on December 1, 2016. The regulations prohibit employers from retaliating against employees for reporting workplace injuries and illnesses. As such, CFMC supports OSHA’s recommendation by not ordering ‘blanket’ drug and alcohol testing.

If an employer wants an employee to complete a test for drugs and/or alcohol, the employer will need to establish an account with Quest Laboratory’s “Employer Solutions” division. Once entered, notify the patient that they can provide the sample while at CFMC for their visit by visiting the Laboratory before they leave.

If the employer (or the employer’s worker’s comp insurance provider) has forms that are required, CFMC asks that these forms be given to the injured employee for them to bring with them to their visit. Depending on the complexity of the forms, CFMC will either fill the forms out during the visit to be returned by the employee or will fill them out and return them to the employer at the soonest possible time.
